The train-the-trainer model, in six steps

Enroll a leader in CHTI

Send a transport leader to the instructor program. Instructors hold CHT-1, CHT-2, and CHT-3, or complete them before CHTI approval. Next virtual cohort: December 8-9, 2026.

They become a certified instructor

Your leader earns the CHTI credential and the right to deliver the endorsed curriculum.

Deliver CHT in-house

The instructor teaches CHT-1, CHT-2, and CHT-3 to your team on your schedule.

Train & validate

Transporters demonstrate proficiency in real work and complete the exam.

ITC issues the credential

Impact Training Company reviews each file and issues the national CHT credential.

What it costs to certify a department

CHTI instructor, $1,425: $1,100 training plus the $325 set of three participant workbooks. Trainer's manuals for all three courses are included.
Each transporter, $355: $325 for all three participant book sets plus the $30 certification fee.
Volume pricing: 10 percent off workbooks for 100 or more book sets.
Renewals: CHT is $20 per person every five years. No continuing education (CE) hours are required; renewal requires a capstone, behavioral validation, and employer attestation. CHTI is $200 every five years, with 30 CE hours.
Instructor requirements: instructors hold CHT-1, CHT-2, and CHT-3, or complete them before CHTI approval, and keep an active NAHTM membership. See NAHTM for membership details.

Time off the floor

Your instructor chooses the format. Floor and hybrid formats keep transporters working while they train.

What a CHT has shown, and how ITC checks it

What each course certifies

CHT-1 Technical Skills: 11 topics and 80 competency items, each validated in four stages: knowledge, demonstration, applied practice, and assessment. It ends with an 18-checkpoint final validation on one complete supervised transport, done without prompting.
CHT-2 Choices: Ethics for the Workplace: 9 modules, each with a behavioral validation sheet that rates 7 to 8 on-the-floor behaviors. Every behavior must be rated Proficient or Advanced.
CHT-3 Strategic Skill Building: 3 module mastery tests of 50 questions each, plus a culminating performance assessment that ties all three modules together.

How ITC checks the work

Only an active, unexpired CHTI can validate a candidate and submit a credential package.
ITC reviews every package for completeness and valid CHTI signatures across all three courses, and returns any package with an open item.
Complete packages are issued by Impact Training Company within 10 business days, as a digital credential anyone can verify.
Departments keep all assessment records for at least five years.
CHT renews every five years with a renewal capstone, a behavioral validation, and an employer attestation.
